The AI & Creativity Summit: LA Edition
The AI & Creativity Summit is coming to LA. Plus our hot takes from our Studio to Storyverse speakers, plus Wimbledon tennis does AI and Apple will translate your phone calls.
š° News Roundup
Wimbledon does AI: For the tennis championships at Wimbledon this year human umpires will be replaced with 12 AI cameras. The impeccably dressed line judges will be missing this year as the cameras take their place. The technology comes from Sonyās subsidiary Hawk-Eye Innovations.
Something has gone wrong: ChatGPT went down for multiple hours this week giving a āhmmm⦠something seems to have gone wrongā error. Users took to X searching for answers, showing just how much we already rely on AI for everyday tasks, even in this early stage.
Translate your calls⦠live: Apple is launching their translation AI into your phone calls and facetime. For a phone call, thatāll mean live translation aloud as you talk, and with FaceTime, it means live captions displayed on the screen. Scifi writer Douglas Adams predicted the Babel Fish, now in 2025 all you need to understand any language is an iPhone. No fish needed.
China temporarily shuts down AI to prevent cheating: In a national move, China shut down AI apps from Alibaba, Tencent and ByteDance during national school exams this week, to prevent cheating. The exams are sat by 13 million students.
Meatball! Top food publisher Eater has reported that recipe sharing AI is now in use on Instagram. Showcasing the New York Times and their Meatball recipe post. Where replying with a comment of āMeatballā triggers NYT Cooking into your inbox in seconds, offering a direct link to the recipe. This is a replacement for the clunky āLink in Bioā or āLink In Storiesā CTA that weāve all got a little tired of in recent years, and a great simple use of AI to make our lives better.

š¾ LA Salon Recap
Our LA Salon āFrom Studio to Storyverseā was overflowing with inspiration and energy on Thursday night. It was an honor to bring such a timely topic to Los Angeles, where Artist and the Machine first began just over a year ago - also the very place where entertainment and film built its legacy. Our gathering united both the established big studios and brands, the emerging platforms and pioneering AI-native studios, and the big-thinking creatives to have a very real discussion about where things sit in the fast-evolving industries of Media & Entertainment. This moment in time calls for a multidisciplinary, multi-generational conversation, and on Thursday, together, we delivered exactly that. Some Takeaways from the evening:
Imagination needs rewilding.
Weāre no longer bound by traditional production constraints. Itās time to dream in new dimensions and push boundaries of what we thought were limits.
Legacy meets whatās next.
Hollywood is no longer shying away from AI. Even over the past 6months, AI usage across workflows has increased substantially and is becoming gradually less frowned upon.AI workflows arenāt āpush-buttonā (!!)
Quality AI production takes iteration, feedback, and visionāthis isnāt full automation with the push of the button, itās augmentation. No "5min videos."Storytelling fundamentals still matter.
The medium may evolve and efficiency may increase, but the principles of strong narrative, and experienced storytelling, remain essential and human.Taste is a multiplier.
Mediocre input equals mediocre output. The creativeās instincts and standards are what give AI work distinction.Studios may evolve into curators and backers.
Big media may begin to resemble VC firmsāsupporting creative-led, IP-rich projects from the outside in.
A huge thank you to our epic panelists and our sponsors who made this possible - Adobe (Hannah Elsakr), STORY (Emma Joelle) and Arent Fox Schiff (Dan Jasnow).

š„ Hot Takes: From Studio To Storyverse

I have been living in a world where I was reading scripts for what I could create, and now the kinds of stories we are going to be able to create are endless. - Lori McCreary

There is going to have to be a level of originality that youāre always going to have to infuse in every step of the process, no matter how great the tools get. - Dave Clark

There is still the magic button misconception. Probably because a few of you post āI made this in 5 minutes for $5 RIP Hollywood!ā There is no magic button to this. - Nik Kleverov
š„ The Illusion Of Thinking: A New Apple Report

This week Apple launched some retro new merch, but much more importantly they published a research paper entitled āThe Illusion Of Thinkingā. In the paper a team of six researchers claim that reasoning models from OpenAI, Deepseek and other major players in the industry donāt actually reason/think at all, but instead recognize patterns.
In a LinkedIn post that has gone viral, Linas BeliÅ«nas, Director at Zero Hash explains this succinctly and in a way that wonāt require you to read the full paper.
